MATERNAL. Stuart's Irish DNA was inherited from his maternal grandmother. Her father (John WILSON) was born and brought up in Co Monaghan in Northern Ireland until his marriage to an Irish girl in the 1860's. The newly-weds emigrated to England and their daughter (Stuart's gran: Ellen WALLIS nee Wilson) was born in Rochdale (but with 100% Irish DNA ) - there is no other Irish blood so Stuart's DNA is 25% Irish. The family of Ellen's husband (Robert SIMS) were English farmers from Heage in Derbyshire (4miles South of Belper) with mostly English DNA but it is likely that a trace of Scottish and some Icelandic DNA was introduced by these forebears.

PATERNAL. Stuart paternal g2-mother was a through and through Londoner whose forebears lived in various East End boroughs (from Bethnal Green to Newham). London has played host to many imigrant communities throughout the years and the family DNA includes diverse small elements from several European countries. The dutch element is particularly strong, and is possibly a result of the huguenot migrations of 1685 (Revocations of the Edict of Nantes). There is a slight doubt about the legitimacy of Stuart's g2-father and it is possible that the Dutch and European DNA is the result of a relationship that his widowed mother had (after his recorded g2-father died) in a possible attempt to provide for her other 4 children. Stuart's recorded g2-father moved to London from Essex in the late 1860's - his kinsmen were jobbing farm labourers and lived in various parishes around Chelmsford (Stow Maries and Cold Norton).
